MOTHERHOOD + WRITING II: A PRACTICE FOR HEALING AND DISCOVERY

If you attended Motherhood + Writing I*, you learned about finding your voice as a mother writer. Now it’s time to use that voice! In this 3 week series by Jacey Rogel, we’ll delve into using writing as a tool for healing our motherhood traumas, and discovering ways to move forward with grace.

Kate Hopper, author of Use Your Words: A Writing Guide for Mothers, says “I felt desperate for words” while recounting her daughter’s traumatic premature birth, adding “… the world felt a little bigger and I felt a little less alone. Just getting those memories down on paper made me feel lighter.”
I connect with her words. It was writing that helped shed light on my postpartum depression, allowed me to call it what it was, and initiate healing. Through writing, I put words to the emotions that suffocated me. I let my truth seep through the paper and shine a light into my soul. With every journal filled and every word written, I forced my way through the darkness and into the light.
Writing can shed light on who we are; it is an act of discovery.
Writing can shed light on pain; it is an act of healing.
Motherhood + Writing II is a three-week workshop that will lead us through a writing practice meant to heal those hurting parts and discover new pieces of ourselves. In our weekly live calls and throughout the course in our private Facebook group, you can openly discuss your writing and what you need help with. It will be a safe space where you can be yourself.
You will get:
- 4 live Zoom calls with Jacey and your fellow workshop participants
- weekly writing prompts to help you dig into who you are and what you need from your creativity
- a supportive, private Facebook group to discuss prompts throughout the week with the other mamas in the course
- BONUS prompts after the last call, to carry you forward into your regular writing practice
The weekly live calls will be recorded and made available in our private Facebook group for you to review, and support will be ongoing throughout the weeks. Calls will occur Saturdays (Aug 8-29) at 2PM Pacific Time.
